Video of the German-Japanese Seminar "Support for Balancing Work and Childcare: Efforts by Governments and Companies" of July 14th, 2021 will be broadcasted for a limited period.

The unsung heroes of these dire times of global pandemic are families, and especially women who have to shoulder both the responsibilities as mothers, and their duties at the workplace. How can we better support them? How can fathers be encouraged to play a greater role in child care? Where can businesses and local authorities ease the burden on families? And what do working parents themselves really want?
These and related questions will be addressed in a bilateral, German-Japanese webinar, co-hosted by the German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe, and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In both countries, a strong need is felt to do more for families. Even in normal times, the workload for women raising children is very heavy. And for too long, our societies have taken for granted what they are doing for us, day in and day out.
But instead of lamenting or delving into political arguing, this webinar is designed to be concrete, and to look into practical solutions, i.a. through an exchange of experience and best practice. It is meant to improve interaction between practitioners both on a communal and a private sector level.

OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD

With the image of "Sakuyahime" who is a strong and beautiful goddess in Japanese mythology, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the ”OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD" from 2016 to 2020. In total, 227 women leaders, who are expected to perform greater roles and to be the role models of working women, received the awards.

SDGs study group by OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD Winners

In 2018, volunteers of OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD winners established the "Volunteer Group of OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD winners" and held a forum in November, 2018 focused on the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations. Based on the proposal of the forum, they established "SDGs Study groups by OSAKA SAKUYAHIME AWARD winners" in order to develop Osaka economy and community for the future generation by women power. They discuss what they should do for the SDGs in 2030 and act for gender equality, work-style improvement and community development.
